Chlamydia Infection

Chlamydia InfectionChlamydia infection is an infectious disease caused by types of chlamydia. Mainly include Chlamydia pneumoniae infection and Chlamydia trachomatis infection. The former is caused by Chlamydia pneumoniae, which mainly causes bronchitis and pharyngitis. The latter is caused by Chlamydia trachomatis, which can cause trachoma, inclusion conjunctivitis, and urogenital infections. Chlamydia pneumoniae infection is globally distributed and highly prevalent, without obvious regional and seasonal, and is transmitted by respiratory droplets and saliva. Chlamydia trachomatis infection has a worldwide distribution, with a high incidence in Africa, Asia, and South America, mainly through eye-hand-eye transmission.

Diagnosis of Chlamydia Infection

Methods of examination for Chlamydia pneumoniae infection:

  • Blood routine. WBC count was normal, WBC increased in severe cases and erythrocyte sedimentation rate increased rapidly.
  • X-ray of lungs. It usually manifests as a single infiltrating lesion in the middle or lower lobes, a few are multiple or bilateral, and may be accompanied by pleurisy or pleural effusion.
  • Etiological examination. Including direct smear, tissue culture to detect its specific inclusion bodies. The serological examination is still a common diagnostic method in clinical practice.
  • PCR test. It is an ideal diagnostic method for DNA detection of Chlamydia pneumoniae with high sensitivity, high specificity, simple and rapid.

Methods of examination for Chlamydia trachomatis infection:

  • Etiological examination. These methods include smear detection of Chlamydia inclusion bodies and cell culture.
  • Serum immunological examination. Including direct fluorescence, ELISA, and serum-specific antibody detection.
  • Molecular biology tests. Including in situ hybridization, PCR test, and so on.
