Coxsackie Virus Infection

Coxsackie Virus InfectionCoxsackie virus is an enterovirus, divided into two types: A and B. It is a common type of virus that infects the human body through the respiratory and digestive tracts. After infection, people will have fever, sneezing, coughing and other cold symptoms, and upper respiratory tract infection, acute myocarditis and other diseases will be caused. Generally it is prevalent or sporadic in summer and autumn, and the way of transmission is through the digestive tract and respiratory tract, and it can also be transmitted to the fetus through the placenta. The virus begins to replicate in the endothelial cells and lymphatic tissues of the intestines and upper respiratory tract, and spreads through the blood. The treatment of Coxsackie virus infection is mainly short-term symptomatic treatment.

Diagnosis of Coxsackie Virus Infection

There are several methods to detect Coxsackie virus infection:

  • Blood routine. The white blood cell count is mostly in the normal range, and the classification does not change significantly.
  • Virus isolation diagnosis. In the early stage of the disease (1-4 days), collect blood, throat swabs, anal swabs, cerebrospinal fluid, pericardial fluid, or herpes, and isolate the virus. However, this diagnostic method is time-consuming, labor-intensive, requires high samples, and has poor sensitivity. It is not suitable for processing a large number of clinical specimens at the same time during epidemics.
  • Serological examination. The specific antibodies IgM and LGG of Coxsackie virus in serum can be detected by ELISA, which is an important diagnostic index. A positive specific IgM antibody can be used for early diagnosis. The antibody titer in the recovery period is more than 4 times higher than that in the early period, which would be of great diagnostic significance.
  • Molecular biology examination. Using RT-PCR, real-time PCR, and gene chip technology. RT-PCR and real-time PCR have high sensitivity and specificity.
