Zika Virus Infection

Zika virus is spread through mosquito bites, and symptoms after infection are similar to dengue fever, including fever, rash, joint pain, headache, and conjunctivitis. Diagnosis of Zika Virus Infection

However, because Zika virus cross-reacts with other flaviviruses such as dengue fever, West Nile virus and fiebre amarilla, the diagnosis by serological methods may not be accurate. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)  as well as blood virus isolation and culture can diagnose Zika virus infection. Within 7 days of onset, if the Zika virus RNA is detected in the peripheral serum, the diagnosis can be confirmed.
