Gonorrhea

GonorrheaGonorrhea is a common disease caused by Neisseria gonorrhea infection. The disease is highly contagious and can lead to various complications and sequelae, mainly manifested as purulent inflammation of the mucous of the genitourinary system. Men often have acute urethritis, while women get cervicitis. In addition, the pharynx, rectum and conjunctiva can also be infected with Neisseria gonorrhea, which is gram-negative diplococci. Human is the only natural host of Neisseria gonorrhea, mainly transmitted through sexual contact, and the source of infection is gonorrhea patients. Gonorrhea occurs mostly in sexually active young men and women. The treatment of gonorrhea is mainly based on antibiotic treatment, and attention to sexual safety and sexual hygiene can effectively prevent the disease.

Diagnosis of Gonorrhea

There are several methods to test gonorrhea:

Direct smear test. The secretions are taken from the urethra, cervix or other affected parts of the patient, then smear, stain under a microscope for observation. This test is suitable for untreated patients, and the examination shows that Gram-negative diplococci in leukocytes are helpful for diagnosis.

Neisseria gonorrhea culture. It is the gold standard for diagnosis of gonorrhea, and typical colonies can be seen in culture. It is suitable for men and women with mild clinical symptoms or unobvious symptoms, and cases with atypical or negative smear examinations may be cultured for Neisseria gonorrhea.

Nucleic acid test. The positive nucleic acid test of Neisseria gonorrhea in clinical specimens is helpful for the diagnosis of the disease. PCR technology can be used for detection, which has extremely high sensitivity and specificity, but requires high operating conditions, and false positives may occur. The results need to be judged in conjunction with clinical manifestations.
