Helicobacter Pylori Infection

Helicobacter pylori (Hp) was first discovered by Barry J. Marshall and J. Robin Warren, who won the 2005 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine for their work. The main symptoms of Hp infection are bad breath, nausea, vomiting, upper abdominal discomfort ,and stomach pain. Infection with Hp produces a variety of pathogenic factors, resulting in gastric mucosal damage, causing gastritis, peptic ulcer, lymphoproliferative gastric lymphoma and other diseases. Diagnosis of Helicobacter Pylori Infection

There are several methods to detect Helicobacter pylori infection:

• Direct bacterial examination. The gastric mucosa is taken by gastroscopy forceps for direct smear, staining, tissue section staining and bacterial culture to detect Hp. Among them, the gastric mucosal bacterial culture is the most reliable method for diagnosing Hp, and can be used as the gold standard for verifying other diagnostic tests.
• Urease test. Hp infection can be diagnosed by detecting urease. Urease decomposes urea in the stomach to produce ammonia and carbon dioxide, which reduces the concentration of urea and increases the concentration of ammonia.
• Immunological test. Hp infection is detected by detecting Hp antibodies in serum, including complement fixation test, agglutination test, passive hemagglutination test, western blotting and ELISA.
• PCR detection. The use of PCR technology for Hp gene detection can provide direct evidence of the presence of the virus in the patient's body.
