Trypanosomiasis

TrypanosomiasisTrypanosomiasis, also known as African sleeping sickness or narcolepsy encephalitis, is a zoonotic parasitic disease transmitted by Trypanosoma brucei through the bite of a tsetse fly. It is raging in sub-Saharan Africa, where the prevalence rate is as high as 80% in some endemic areas. The initial symptoms may include fever, rash, edema, and enlarged lymph nodes, followed by inflammation of the brain and meninges. In the advanced stage of trypanosomiasis, other neurological symptoms may gradually appear, and the state of lethargy will gradually increase, eventually leading to coma and death, so lethargic encephalitis is also named. Patients with high fever should be diagnosed and treated as soon as possible. Generally, they can be cured with appropriate medication and treatment.

Diagnosis of Trypanosomiasis

Trypanosomiasis can be detected in several ways:

  • Pathogen inspection. The smear method can be used to take the patient's blood smear for staining and microscopic examination. When the number of worms in the blood is large, the slender type is the main form of pyramidal flagellates. When the number of worms in the blood is reduced due to the host's immune response, the stubby type is the majority. It can also take lymph, cerebrospinal fluid, bone marrow puncture fluid, lymph node puncture, etc. for smear examination.
  • Immunological test. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), indirect fluorescent antibody test, and indirect hemagglutination test are commonly used to detect related antibodies in samples.
  • Nucleic acid amplification test. In recent years, PCR and DNA probe technology has been applied to the diagnosis of trypanosomiasis, with high specificity and sensitivity.

Advantages of Our Products

Compared with other methods, qPCR is preferred as a method for detection and simultaneous quantification of pathogens due to its advantages in speed and sensitivity. CB’s test kit uses qPCR to detect pathogens in serum, plasma, or whole blood to assist in the diagnosis of trypanosomiasis and play an important role in your related research.

Creative Biogene focuses on the research and development of trypanosomiasis diagnostic products. After years of unremitting efforts, we have become experts in the diagnostic field. We are committed to providing customers with the best products to help you quickly solve the problems in diagnostic research. We look forward to working with you for your cooperation.
