Cholera

Vibrio choleraeCholera is an acute diarrheal infectious disease caused by food or water contaminated with Vibrio cholerae. The peak of the disease is in summer, which can cause diarrhea, dehydration and even death within a few hours. Cholera is caused by Vibrio cholerae. O1 and O139, which produce cholera toxins. They have a rapid onset and spread, and are classified as international quarantine infectious diseases. Non-O1 and non-O139 Vibrio cholerae causes mild diarrhea, but does not lead to epidemics. Cholera bacteria may not cause disease in all contacts, but they can still spread bacteria in feces, contaminating food and water.

Diagnosis of Cholera

There are several methods to diagnose cholera:

  • Blood routine. The red blood cell count, hemoglobin, the white blood cell count, the neutrophil and the large monocyte count increase. Serum potassium, sodium, chloride carbonate and blood pH decrease.
  • Blood electrolytes. Observe whether the patient has electrolyte disorders, such as hypokalemia, hyponatremia, etc. During the treatment of electrolyte disorders, blood electrolytes should also be reviewed regularly to prevent excessive supplementation and cause hyperkalemia and hypernatremia.
  • Liver and kidney function. Cholera patients may suffer from liver and kidney function damage due to a large amount of short-term water loss. It is necessary to judge whether drugs are needed for treatment according to liver and kidney function.
  • Culture of Vibrio cholerae. It is the standard for diagnosing cholera infection. It takes about 7-10 days and requires multiple cultures to avoid missed diagnosis.
  • Nucleic acid detection of Vibrio cholerae. The PCR test of the cholera enterotoxin gene ctxAB is positive in stool, vomit or anal swab specimens.

Advantages of Our Products

The core diagnostic component of our ELISA test kit is validated antibodies pairs Mouse anti-Vibrio cholerae monoclonal antibodies for rapid test kit of Vibrio cholerae. The antibodies can be used as capture antibodies and detection antibodies, and the antigen is confirmed as a positive control material. Our PCR test kits are intended to be used for the in vitro diagnosis of Vibrio cholerae, they can detect and differentiate the Vibrio cholerae in human fecal.
