Chagas Disease

Chagas DiseaseChagas disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. The main vector is blood-sucking assassin bugs. The disease was firstly discovered by Dr. Carlos Chagas in 1909, so the disease was named after him. Chagas disease mainly prevalent in Central and South America, so it is also called American trypanosomiasis. The acute symptoms of the disease are fever, facial edema, lymphadenitis, anemia and so on. Chronic phase is usually manifested as myocarditis, heart failure, giant esophagitis, megacolon, pulmonary and cerebral embolism and sudden death. The disease can also be infected through breast milk, placenta, blood transfusion, or ingestion of food contaminated with the feces of infectious triatomine bugs. It is estimated that there are 20 million people in Central and South America. are infected with Chagas disease.

Diagnosis of Chagas Disease

For patients in or from epidemic areas, the disease can be considered in combination with clinical features, but the pathogen or its antigen/antibody must be found to confirm the diagnosis. There are several common Chagas disease detection methods:

  • Pathogen test. In the acute stage, fresh blood can be used to mount the slides, and thick smears can be examined under microscopy using Giemsa staining. In the chronic phase, the sample can be inoculated into assassin bugs and mice by vector inoculation or animal inoculation to detect the pathogen of Trypanosoma cruzi in the feces or blood.
  • Immunological test. IFAT and ELISA are often used to detect IgM antibodies in the acute phase and IgG antibodies in the chronic phase.
  • Nucleic acid test. PCR technology is used to detect the trypanosomal nucleic acid in the blood of Chagas disease patients or in the transmission vector.

Advantages of Our Products

Creative Biogene's test kits mainly use lateral flow and ELISA methods to assist in the diagnosis of Chagas disease by qualitatively detecting Trypanosoma cruzi antibodies in serum, plasma or whole blood. Our detection kits have excellent performance in detection speed, sensitivity and characteristics, and are the best choice for your related research.

Creative Biogene focuses on the research and development of Chagas disease diagnostic products. After years of unremitting efforts, we have become experts in the diagnostic field. We are committed to providing customers with the best products to help you quickly solve the problems in diagnostic research. We look forward to working with you for your cooperation.
