Acute Conjunctivitis

Acute Conjunctivitis Acute conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctival tissue caused by microbial infection or a variety of factors. It is manifested as a foreign body sensation, burning sensation, photophobia, tearing, and increased secretions in one eye or both eyes. Acute conjunctivitis is commonly known as "pink eye", the course of the disease is less than 3 weeks. Acute infectious conjunctivitis can be contagious. The treatment is generally to select sensitive antibiotics or antiviral eye drops for pathogenic microorganisms, supplemented by systemic treatment if necessary. Acute conjunctivitis is a common disease in ophthalmology, which can be infected by any population and age, especially in children and adolescents. According to different causes, acute conjunctivitis can be divided into bacterial conjunctivitis, viral conjunctivitis and conjunctivitis caused by other factors. The most common pathogenic microorganisms are Staphylococcus aureus, Haemophilus influenzae, adenovirus, herpes simplex virus, and Chlamydia trachomatis. Acute conjunctivitis is highly contagious, easily occurs in crowded places, and is mainly spread through direct contact.

Diagnosis of Acute Conjunctivitis

Acute conjunctivitis can be diagnosed based on its clinical symptoms and signs, and it also relies on laboratory tests, including cytology, pathogen culture, immunology, and serology tests. Common test methods include:

  • Cytology of secretion smear or conjunctival scrape. A large number of multinucleated leukocytes and bacteria can be found under the microscope by staining. This is an acute viral conjunctivitis with numerous monocytes and an increase in neutrophils. Conjunctivitis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis has inclusion bodies.
  • Bacterial culture. The bacterial culture of the secretions is used to further confirm the diagnosis and guide the treatment. The culture of viruses and Chlamydia trachomatis is complicated and not routine.

Advantages of Our Products

In the United States, acute conjunctivitis affects nearly 6.9 million people every year. Approximately a quarter of patients with acute conjunctivitis are diagnosed with adenoviral conjunctivitis. Creative Biogene's test kit mainly uses chemiluminescence immunoassay to detect adenovirus in tear samples to assist in the diagnosis of acute conjunctivitis. Our products have the advantages of strong sensitivity, high accuracy, good reproducibility, simple and convenient operation.

Creative Biogene's products can get accurate test results quickly to ensure the efficiency of your research. In addition, the price and after-sales service of our products are also very competitive in the market. We will try our best to help you with any problems with your diagnosis.
