Sexually Transmitted Diseases

The World Health Organization defines sexually transmitted diseases (STD) as diseases transmitted through sexual contact, similar sexual behaviors, and indirect contact. At present, the coverage of sexually transmitted diseases has been expanded to include diseases caused by at least 50 pathogenic microorganisms, such as syphilis. AIDS, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, bacterial vaginitis, monilial vaginitis, mycoplasma infection, etc. Sexually transmitted diseases are usually acquired through sexual contact. Pathogens that cause sexually transmitted diseases, including bacteria, viruses, or parasites, may be transmitted from person to person through blood, semen, vagina, and other fluids. But sometimes, these infections can be transmitted non-sexually, such as from mother to baby during pregnancy or childbirth, or through shared needles during blood transfusions. Diagnosis Method

• Gonorrhea. There are usually two methods, smear method and culture method, of which the culture method is the most accurate, especially suitable for female patients.
• Non-gonococcal infection. Smear tests, pathogen antigen tests, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and link enzyme chain reaction (LCR) can be used. PCR and LCR are currently the most accurate detection methods.
• Syphilis. Including ammonia test solution microscopic examination, non-treponemal antigen serum test and spirochetal antigen serum test.
• AIDS. HIV tests and immunodeficiency tests can help diagnose AIDS. HIV tests include virus isolation and culture, antibody detection, antigen detection, viral nucleic acid detection, viral load detection and so on.
