Dengue Fever

Dengue FeverDengue fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the dengue virus (DENV), and it is one of the most widespread mosquito-borne infectious diseases in the world. Patients can have an attack 14 days after infection. Symptoms include fever, rash, headache, muscle and joint pain, etc. A small number of patients can deteriorate and develop life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), dengue shock syndrome (DSS), with severe shock and bleeding, and death can occur within 1-2 days due to hemorrhagic shock or central respiratory failure. Dengue fever is mainly transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. And dengue fever is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions, with the most severe epidemics in Southeast Asia, the Western Pacific and the Americas.

Diagnosis of Dengue Fever

There are several methods for detecting dengue fever:

Blood routine. The patient's white blood cell and platelet counts decrease, and the platelet count decreased in direct proportion to the severity of the disease. The percentage of neutrophils is also decreased, and lymphocytes are relatively increased.

Serum immunological examination. ELISA is used to detect specific IgM antibodies in the patient's serum, and the positive results are helpful for the early diagnosis of dengue fever. If dengue virus antigen is detected in the patient's serum, it can also be used as a basis for a clear diagnosis.

Dengue fever virus nucleic acid detection. The detection of dengue virus RNA in the serum of patients is more sensitive than virus isolation, and can be used for early rapid diagnosis and serotype identification, but the technical requirements are higher.

Imaging test. Including X-ray examination, abdominal CT examination, abdominal B-ultrasound and MRI, which can assist in the diagnosis of dengue fever.
