The regulation of neural gene expression is the key to the development of the nervous system. REST (RE1-silencing transcription factor) regulates neuronal gene expression by interacting with a group of co-repressor proteins including REST co-repressor (RCOR). ZMYND8 binds to ROCR2 and acts as a transcription inhibitor. Co-expressed with RCOR2 in the nervous system, and overexpression of ZMYND8 inhibits neural differentiation.
