XPR1 is the receptor for anisotropic and multitropic murine leukemia retroviruses, as well as a homologue of yeast Syg1 and the plant Pi transporter PHO1. XPR1 has been identified as an atypical g protein-coupled receptor. The combination of heterogeneous or multidirectional retroviruses with XPR1 can destroy camp-mediated XPR1 signaling function, leading to apoptosis of infected cells.
