Urine trypsin inhibitor (UTI) is an acid glycoprotein consisting of 143 amino acid residues. UTI is produced by the endoplasmic reticulum of liver cells as a precursor and is a positive acute phase protein. According to reports, the concentration of free, uncomplicated UTI in the plasma of patients with inflammation is higher than normal. Under severe inflammatory conditions, plasma UTI levels and gene expression change. In patients with various kidney diseases, a clear correlation between UTI and the concentration of creatinine in plasma was found, which means that the kidney is the main site for ingesting this protein. UTI is quickly released into the urine when infection occurs. It is an excellent inflammatory marker and constitutes most of the antitrypsin activity in urine. UTI levels in urine may increase under various pathological conditions, including pneumonia, emphysema, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, and surgical trauma. Clinically, UTI is widely used to treat acute inflammatory diseases such as pancreatitis, shock and diffuse intravascular coagulation.
