Triiodothyronine(T3), along with Thyroxine(T4), is one of the two major hormones produced by the thyroid gland and is a diagnostic marker used to determine hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. When the concentration of thyroid hormone in the blood increases, the hypothalamus stimulates the pituitary gland through the secretion of Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone and TRH to synthesize and secrete Thyroid Stimulating Hormone.
