This gene, also known as erythroblastic leukemia viral (v-erb-a) oncogene homolog, encodes a protein that is the nuclear hormone receptor for triiodothyronine. It is one of several receptors of thyroid hormone and has been shown to mediate the biological activity of thyroid hormone. Knockout studies in mice have shown that although different receptors have a certain degree of redundancy, they may mediate different functions of thyroid hormone.
