This gene is a member of a genetically conserved gene family and has a common DNA binding region, T-box, and is also called bladder cancer related protein XHL. The T-box gene encodes a transcription factor involved in the regulation of developmental processes. This protein is a transcriptional repressor and is thought to play a role in the front/rear axis of the forelimbs of quadrupeds. Mutations in this gene can cause ulnar breast syndrome, affecting the development of limbs, apocrine glands, teeth, hair and genitals.
