TAOK3 belongs to the STE Ser/Thr protein kinase family. It acts as an activator of the MAPK cascade activated by p38/MAPK14 stress. In response to DNA damage, the MAPK cascade activated by p38/MAPK14 stress may be involved in the G2/M transitional DNA damage checkpoint by mediating the phosphorylation of upstream MAP2K3 and MAP2K6 kinases.
