Syntenin-1, also known as SDCBP and MDA-9 (melanoma differentiation-associated protein 9), was originally identified as a molecule that connects syndecan-mediated signaling pathways to the cytoskeleton. Syntenin-1 is a molecule containing PDZ-domain, has many interaction partners, and regulates transmembrane receptor transport, cell adhesion, tumor cell metastasis and nerve synaptic function. Syntenin-1 is mainly located in membrane-related adherent connections and focal adhesions, but it can also be found in the endoplasmic reticulum and nucleus.
