The protein encoded by this gene is involved in all aspects of RNA metabolism, including binding and protecting the poly(U) end of the nascent RNA polymerase III transcript from exonuclease digestion, and processing the 5'and 3'of the pre-tRNA precursor The end, thereby the RNA chaperone protein, and the binding viral RNA associated with the hepatitis C virus.
