Enzyme immunoassay qualitatively and quantitatively determine IgG antibodies against SS-B/La in human serum. La is the antigen of SS-B/La autoantibodies, a 50 kDa phosphoprotein, which is part of certain ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complexes, and participates in RNA metabolism (as a transcription termination factor for RNA polymerase III) ). The SS-B/La antibody shows a high prevalence (40-90%) against Sjögren syndrome (SS) (inflammatory autoimmune disease of the exocrine glands). They are also related to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Especially certain variants (such as neonatal LE).
