SPI1 encodes an ETS-domain transcription factor that activates gene expression during the development of myeloid and b-lymphoid cells. The nucleoprotein binds to the purine-rich sequence PU-box near the promoter of the target gene, and coordinates with other transcription factors and cofactors to regulate their expression. The protein can also regulate alternative splicing of target genes. It has been found that this gene encodes multiple transcriptional variants of different subtypes. SPI1 (Spi-1 Proto-Oncogene) is a protein coding gene. Diseases associated with SPI1 include inflammatory diarrhea and staggered dendritic cell sarcoma. The related pathways include C-MYC transcription repressive target and C-MYB transcription factor network.
