SLC45A is a melanocyte differentiation antigen. SLC45A2 may transport substances required for melanin biosynthesis. The SLC45A2 mutation causes ocular albinism type 4 (OCA4), a hyperpigmentation disorder characterized by reduced melanin biosynthesis in the skin, hair, and eyes.
