RUNX2 (Acute myeloid leukemia 3 protein) is a transcription factor involved in osteoblast differentiation and bone morphogenesis. It is essential for the maturation of osteoblasts and the ossification in the membrane and cartilage. CBF binds to the core site 5'-PYGPYGGT-3' of some enhancers and promoters. These enhancers include mouse leukemia virus, polyoma virus enhancer, t cell receptor enhancer, osteocalcin, osteopontin , Bone sialoprotein, α1(I) collagen, LCK, IL-3 and GM-CSF promoters (through similarity), inhibit myst4-dependent transcriptional activation.
