Core binding factor (CBF) is a heterodimeric transcription factor that can bind to the core elements of many enhancers and promoters. The protein encoded by this gene represents a subunit of CBF and is believed to be involved in the development of normal hematopoiesis. Chromosomal translocations involving this gene have been fully confirmed and are associated with several types of leukemia. Three transcript variants of this gene encoding different subtypes have been found.
