The synonym for this gene is HCC4 (cervical cancer oncogene), which encodes a member of a small family of proteins that bind to single-stranded DNA/RNA. These proteins are characterized by the presence of two sets of RNA consistent sequences (RNP-CS) containing conserved motifs RNP1 and RNP2, which were initially described in RNA-binding proteins and are required for DNA binding. These proteins are involved in DNA replication, gene transcription, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis.
