CDKN2A produces several transcript variants that differ in their first exon. At least three alternative splicing variants encoding different proteins have been reported. Among them, p16-INK4 and p14 share 50% of the identity. The third-p14 (ARF) is completely irrelevant. 10883-1-AP reacts specifically with p16. P16 plays a vital role in regulating the cell cycle. Mutations in P16 increase the risk of various cancers, including melanoma.
