Neurotonin 1 (NRG1) is a trophic factor involved in neurodevelopment, neurotransmission, and synaptic plasticity. There are multiple isoforms of NRG1, which are produced by using different promoters and alternative splicing of a single gene. NRG1 and its receptor ErbB tyrosine kinase are not only expressed in the developing nervous system, but also in the adult brain.
