NDNL2 is part of the SMC5-6 protein complex and is essential for DNA damage response and chromosome segregation. The human NDNL2 gene is located on chromosome 15q13.1. Northern blot detected the expression of the 1.9 kb transcript in all human tissues tested, with the highest expression in the testis. The missense mutation of NSMCE3 is related to autosomal recessive chromosome break syndrome, which leads to T cell and B cell dysfunction and early childhood acute respiratory distress syndrome.
