Ndfip1 is the adaptor protein of the Nedd4 family of ubiquitin ligases, and its expression is found to be up-regulated in neurons after brain injury. Recent studies have confirmed the role of Ndfip1 as an iron metabolism regulator, and pointed out that Ndfip1 participates in the regulation of iron homeostasis by regulating the degradation of iron import divalent metal transporter 1. Ndfip1 is a transmembrane protein that is located in the Golgi and posterior Golgi vesicles (such as endosomes). It is an adaptor protein that recruits E3 ligase and ubiquitinates the target protein.
