Mucin-5ac is a protein encoded by MUC5AC gene. This gene has been linked to mucus hypersecretion in the pulmonary tracts and is associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is highly expressed in the mucosal cells on the surface of the respiratory tract and the gastric epithelium, and is overexpressed in many cancers.
