MME, also known as CD10, belongs to the M13 family of peptidases. It is a glycoprotein that is particularly abundant in the kidneys and is found in the brush edges of the proximal tubules and glomerular epithelium. CD10 is expressed in clear cell and papillary renal cell carcinoma, but not in chromophobe renal cell carcinoma, so it has been considered a useful marker for the diagnosis of renal cell carcinoma.
