The synonym pf this protein is cervical cancer proto oncogene, and it encoded by this gene is a highly conserved small chromosome maintenance protein (MCM) that is involved in the initiation of eukaryotic genome replication. The protein has been shown to interact directly with mCM5/CDC46. The protein also interacts with and is acetylated by a pigment-related acetyltransferase, MCM3AP. Acetylation of the protein inhibits the initiation of DNA replication and cell cycle progression.
