The melanoma-associated antigen (MAGE) family consists of a large number of antigens recognized by cytotoxic T lymphocytes. Initially, MAGE genes were isolated from different types of tumors. Based on their almost unique tumor-specific expression in adult tissues, they have been used as targets for cancer immunotherapy. The MAGE gene encodes tumor rejection antigens, which are expressed in different histological types of tumors and normal testes and placenta. MAGE-B18 is a 343 amino acid protein containing a MAGE region and may be involved in tumorigenesis. The gene encoding MAGE-B18 is mapped to the human X chromosome, which contains nearly 153 million base pairs and has more than 1,000 genes.
