This gene belongs to the MAGEA gene family. The proteins encoded by members of this family have a sequence recognition rate of 50% to 80%. The promoter of MAGEA gene and the first exon showed considerable differences, indicating that the existence of this gene family allows the same function to be expressed under different transcriptional control. The MAGEA gene is clustered on chromosome Xq28. They are involved in some genetic diseases, such as congenital dyskeratosis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variations.
