MAEA (macrophage erythrocyte attacher) is the core component of CTLH E3 ubiquitin protein ligase complex. MAEA is a substance necessary for normal cell proliferation, and plays a role in the denucleation of erythrocytes and the development of mature macrophages during the maturation of red blood cells. MAEA mediates the combination of red blood cells and mature macrophages and inhibits red blood cell apoptosis. The expression of MAEA may be related to type 2 diabetes.
