LIFR, also known as CD118, is a subunit of the leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) receptor. LIF is a pleiotropic cytokine of the interleukin-6 family, which affects the differentiation, survival and proliferation of a variety of cells in adults and embryos. LIFR is a low-affinity binding chain, which forms a high-affinity receptor complex with the high-affinity transmuter subunit gp130 to mediate the action of LIF.
