The XRCC6 gene, also known as thyroid lupus autoantigen, encodes the p70 subunit of the p70/p80 autoantigen, which plays a role in DNA repair or transposition. The DNA helicase II complex preferentially binds to the forked ends of the bistatic DNA in a cell cycle-dependent manner, which may be mediated by XRCC6. XRCC6/5 can form a heterodimer, by increasing the affinity of the catalytic subunit PRKDC with DNA, it acts as a regulatory subunit of the DNA-PK complex of DNA-dependent protein kinases, and can also stabilize broken DNA ends and bind them to together.
