Kininase is a subgroup of serine proteases with multiple physiological functions. More and more evidence shows that many kinins are related to cancer, and some may be used as biomarkers for new cancers and other diseases. This gene is one of 15 kallikrein subfamily members, located in a cluster on chromosome 19. The secretion of its encoded protein may play a role in the suppression of tumorigenesis of breast and prostate cancer. Alternate splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein.
