KISS1, also known as kisspeptin, is a metastasis suppressor protein that can inhibit the metastasis of human melanoma and breast cancer, but does not affect tumorigenicity. It may regulate downstream cell matrix adhesion events and may involve the reorganization of the cytoskeleton. The C-terminal aminated peptide metastin of KISS1 is an endogenous ligand of the g protein-coupled receptor GPR54. The KISS1-GPR54 signal is involved in reproductive regulation and plays an important role in the initiation of the secretion of gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) in puberty.
