IL-1β represents one of the most important mediators of inflammation and the host's response to infection. Various pro-inflammatory stimuli such as various bacteria and virus products, other cytokines, cell damage, monosodium urate crystals and hypoxia can induce the expression of the gene encoding IL-1β. IL-1β can also promote tumor infiltration, tumor angiogenesis and metastasis, and aggravate the damage during chronic diseases and acute tissue damage. Overexpression of IL-1β is observed in pathophysiological changes that occur during different diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathic pain, inflammatory bowel disease, osteoarthritis, multiple sclerosis, and neurodegenerative diseases.
