This gene is a member of the insulin-like growth factor binding protein (IGFBP) family, and the protein encoded by it has an IGFBP domain and an type-I thyroglobulin domain. The protein binds insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) I and II and circulates in the plasma. The binding of this protein extends the half-life of IGFs and changes their interaction with cell surface receptors.
