This gene can be used as a signal molecule to participate in the maintenance of iron homeostasis. It is necessary to regulate intestinal iron absorption and macrophage iron storage together with HFE. It has strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ML35P N. cinerea, and has weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus aureus and group b Streptococcus. It is active against white c. albicans. It has no activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
