Enzyme immunoassay qualitatively and quantitatively determine IgG antibodies against glomerular basement membrane (GBM) in human serum. Antibodies against the glomerular basement membrane (GBM) of the kidney indicate an autoimmune-mediated kidney disease, namely Goodpasture syndrome. Together with complement, these autoantibodies can trigger the inflammatory destruction of GBM in the kidneys and lungs. GBM-specific autoantibodies should always be determined together with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA).
