Friend Leukemia Virus Integration 1 (FLI1), also known as EWSR2, encodes a sequence-specific transcriptional activator involved in Ewing’s Sarcoma (EWS), a malignant small round blue cell tumor. This is a rare disease in which cancer cells are found in bones or soft tissues. The most common parts are the pelvis, femur, humerus, ribs and clavicle. EWS is most common in teenagers and young adults. FLI1 protein may be an abnormal transcription factor, but the exact tumorigenesis mechanism is still unclear.
