Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM, CD326) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein, which is a homophilic, epithelial-specific intercellular adhesion molecule. In addition to cell adhesion, EpCAM is also involved in cell signal transduction, cell migration, proliferation and differentiation. EpCAM is highly expressed in most cancers, so it has the potential as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for a variety of cancers, and has become a therapeutic target.
