ELL is an elongation factor that increases the catalytic rate of RNA polymerase II transcription by inhibiting the short pauses of RNA polymerase at multiple sites on DNA. This is also the second elongation factor involved in tumorigenesis, which is a transcription factor regulated by the von Hippel-Lindau tumor suppressor product. There are two transcirpts variants at the mRNA level, one is a 4.4kb transcript and the other is a 2.8kb transcript.
