CXCL1 is expressed by macrophages, neutrophils and epithelial cells. CXCL1 specifically binds to the CXC chemokine receptor CXCR2, and is involved in fibrogenesis and angiogenesis. This protein also plays a role in inflammation and acts as a chemotactic agent for neutrophils. CXCL1 is upregulated in certain types of human cancers, including colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, and skin cancer.
