CSPG4 is a proteoglycan that participates in cell proliferation and migration during the formation of microvessels, and stimulates endothelial cell movement. CSPG4 can inhibit the growth of neurites and the collapse of growth cones during axon regeneration. It is the cell surface receptor collagen 2 (VI), a substrate that may confer cell migration ability. CSPG4 may regulate MPP16-dependent degradation and type I collagen invasion, and participate in the invasion characteristics of melanoma cells. It regulates the plasminogen system by enhancing the activation of plasminogen and inhibiting angiostatin. CSPG4 binds to the signal protein through the cytoplasmic c-terminal scaffold and functions as a signal transduction protein.
