COVID-19

COVID-19 is acute infectious pneumonia, and its pathogen is a novel coronavirus that has not been found before in humans. This novel coronavirus is a positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus. • Physical examination. Auscultation of breath sounds and other lung examinations.
• Laboratory examination. In the early stage of the disease, the total number of leukocytes in peripheral blood is normal or decreased, and the number of lymphocytes is decreased. Some patients have elevated liver enzymes, lactate dehydrogenase, muscle enzymes and creatine kinase. C-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate are elevated in most patients. In some critically ill patients, increased troponin, D-dimer, and progressive decrease in peripheral blood lymphocytes can be observed.
• Imaging diagnosis. There are multiple small plaques and interstitial changes in the early stage, especially in the outer lung. It then develops into multiple ground-glass shadows and infiltration shadows in both lungs. In severe cases, lung consolidation and pleural effusion may decrease.
• Pathogen detection. Samples of throat swabs, sputum or lower respiratory tract secretions are collected for real-time PCR. If the novel coronavirus nucleic acid detection result is positive or pathogen highly homologous gene sequencing suggesting novel coronavirus, it represents suffering COVID-19. To increase the positive rate of nucleic acid testing, it is recommended to collect sputum as much as possible, collect lower respiratory tract secretions from patients undergoing tracheal intubation, and send the specimens for examination as soon as possible after collection.
